Wood flooring and carpet flooring are two most preferred options today

Flooring provides the foundation on a home and is often overlooked. Nevertheless, it is a very important contributing factor to the overall feel and look of the house interior. As it covers a significant area within the house, it must be one of the first things to consider when designing the space. There are several factors to keep in mind, from design, functionality, color and ease in maintenance.

When it comes to home flooring options, the two basic options among several materials include wooden and carpet flooring. Wood or wooden flooring is a product manufactured from lumber, either structural or aesthetic. Wood is a common choice as floor covering material because of its environmental benefit, resolvability and durability. Just like other materials, it also has pros and cons. Wooden floor covering looks clean, lustrous and versatile and the natural timber provides a peaceful and warm atmosphere. Painted materials could look clean and minimalist and easy to maintain. Hardwood floors could be refinished and sanded if the color fades, making it durable and adaptable.

Wood flooring is expensive and a household with a limited budget may not have the means to afford it. It requires regular mopping and sweeping, which may be hard for those with busy schedules or impaired mobility. Moreover, dirt, dust and hair could gather and sit on the surface, thus regular lifting and cleaning underneath the furniture is required to keep the area clean. It does not provide sound insulation and could promote echoing and noise transfer between rooms. Placing mats and rugs could solve this concern and are recommended for areas with high traffic. Wood flooring is susceptible to water damage such as leaks and spills which should be attended to immediately. It not trap household odors and not vulnerable to parasites like fleas and dust mites that could live on a carpet. When it comes to functionality and practicality, a wood floor works better in certain areas in the home than others.

Carpet is a textile floor covering that consists of an upper layer of pile attached to the backing. In general, the pile is either made from wool or fiber like nylon, polyester and others.
Carpets - the most preferred option for new homes flooring. Carpets could bring a feeling of comfort and softness to a home interior and available in various colors and designs with a style that suits any dwelling. The handle and textural attributes are attractive to most people and is nice to touch, gentle on bare feet and offers traction for walking on.

A carpet is available at various prices to suit most budgets. Moreover, most come with comprehensive warranties from manufacturing defects. It is a great sound insulator that absorbs sound waves and diminishes echoes, serving as a cushion from sound transfer from one room to another. Additionally, it provides a layer of thermal insulation since it forms a protective barrier between the air and floor foundation.

Carpet however needs regular vacuuming to prevent build-up of soil and dirt which could damage it in time. Stains and marks could be hard to remove and could cause the look to be diminished if not properly treated.  Steam cleaning may be needed to help remove dust mites and other parasites that could live on it. Overall, it is a great choice for various budgets with multiple designs and style.
